Earthquake in Haiti - UpdateCongratulations to Clubs in District 1120 who, collectively, have raised £83,868 in the last two weeks, either through donations or street collections. I have heard many stories of members of the public giving their cash to Rotary because they know it will be spent properly and efficiently. So far I have recommended that clubs support ShelterBox, and their track record in giving aid where it is needed is magnificent but I now recommend that clubs also consider supporting the Haiti Hospital Appeal (HHA), which is already supported by Beckenham Rotary Club and is a registered Charity. Details of HHA, the aid they are already providing in Port-au-Prince and how to donate, are available at www.haitihospitalappeal.org. They need funds to buy medical supplies and medical professional to travel to Haiti. A ground blog is at www.haitihospitalappeal.org/blog.html
For further local advice contact either Evelyn le Chene, Chair of the District International Committee
or John Moren, Beckenham RC on 0208 460 6726.

My week started with two days at RIBI General Council where together with the President of RIBI and my 28 fellow Governors we discussed weighty matters of
Being District Governor is, I find, a good job, but it got a bit better on Thursday when Jill and I were invited to take part in the chartering of a new Interact Club. The club is sponsored by Senlac Rotary Club and their members had worked hard to help the club reach its first milestone. Its name is
Two other matters on our General Council Agenda were the Rotary Foundation and ‘Thanks for Life’, both of which need our wholehearted support. The Foundation’s reserves are growing again, but it continues to need our support so that it can support us in the work we do. ‘Thanks for Life’ is nearly upon us and Senlac – St Mary’s Interact Club is planning a non-uniform day and expect to raise £1,000 to support the campaign to fight polio – how does that ambition compare with your club’s? |
